A Must-Have App! My sister tends to lose her phone every once-in-a-while. When we were taking an evening stroll with our friends, we got to our friends house, and about an hour later, she feels her pocket for her phone, and her eyes widen. I have seen this happen many-a-time, so I simply get out my phone and use this app. And the App Store is the best place to discover new apps that let you pursue your passions in ways you never thought possible. Designed for discovery. Tabs in the App Store make it easy to discover new apps you’re going to love. And to learn more about the kinds of apps you already love.
Many users have faced this issue in the past, and also in the present. Whenever a new iOS version is released by Apple, a lot of users complain about missing apps from their device. This is likely a bug that can be resolved quickly and you get back all Apps that were missing on your iPhone or iPad after updating iOS.
While we’re not exactly sure as to what causes the problem, but there is an easy solution that does work. That’s precisely what we’ll take a look at in this post. So keep reading and follow the instructions.
How to Find Missing Apps on iPhone or iPad After Updating iOS
Get Help from Siri
Before concluding that apps have disappeared, we first need to double check the root of the problem. But how do you check if apps have actually disappeared or it is just that they are not being displayed?
Let’s ask Siri to open an app that is missing on your device. If Siri opens the app, then there isn’t much work to do and you can proceed to the next fix and get back app icons on the Home Screen.
Even if Siri doesn’t help, I’ll strongly recommend to try the second fix below.
Reset Home Screen on your iOS device
The problem of missing apps may seem disastrous, but it may be a minor glitch in iOS. So before moving to heavy and tedious fixes, let’s start with something simple.
It is possible that Apps aren’t actually missing, it may be just a UI glitch that isn’t displaying the app icons. How about resetting the Home Screen and try to fix the issue?
Go to Settings → General → Reset → Reset Home Screen Layout.
If the issue is mainly a software glitch, it should be resolved by the simple Home Screen reset. But it isn’t fixed yet, given some more fixes mentioned below.
Restore iOS Device via iCloud Backup
One of the earliest solutions is to restore your iPhone – not via iTunes, but through iCloud. Suppose you’ve got things backed up to iCloud, you might want to restore your iPhone/iPad through iCloud. Most users are still fond of iTunes backup so they generally tend to restore their updated iPhone via iTunes.
This is what usually ends up in apps going “awol.”
When you update your iPhone, try to restore it via iCloud. This might fix the trouble. What if you restored already (via iTunes) and the apps are missing? Hit Reset Everything and restore via iCloud.

iTunes Restore Purchases
This works good. When you find that apps don’t appear even in iTunes or if the sync doesn’t really put all apps into the iPhone, you might want to head over to the “Purchases” section. You’ll find the apps you’ve already downloaded via the App Store
Get App Store App
- Go to the App Store → Tap on your profile picture
- Tap on Purchased
- Tap on “Not on this iPhone”
- Re-download the apps that you want

Arguably, this is a lengthy process but this definitely ensures that all your apps are back. And oh, do note that if the app isn’t compatible with the firmware you just updated, you might not see the app downloaded or even if it does, you might run into trouble using the app.

Even though the disappearing apps isn’t a widespread issue among iOS users, it becomes really frustrating if you are one of the victims. I hope one of the above fixes may have helped you resolve the problem.
